JOB DESCRIPTION FOR BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST 

REPORTS TO THE BUILDING PRINCIPAL AND DISTRICT SUPERVISOR FOR ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION: Highly qualified individual with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program at the school level. The Behavior Interventionists will provide training on classroom and school-wide behavior management and academic strategies through the guidance of the school counselor in each school.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

Coordinate, foster and assist in promoting positive behavior in students through the development of School- Wide PBIS programs.

Work with teachers, groups of teachers, and or the entire staff through the guidance of the school counselor on issues such as crisis intervention, learning and collaborative issues, and factors that can impede student learning.

Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions with “at-risk” students.

Work cooperatively with building administrators, teachers, staff, and the school counselor to promote positive student behavior and attendance by the students.

Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students may reach their potential.

Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student supports for all students.

Engage the students, parents, and the school community in the School –Wide PBIS Program.

Implement restorative practices with students and staff, conduct conflict meetings with students, and peer mediation with students when appropriate.

Organize and schedule duties and time commitments to meet the demands of the job with the school counselors.

Participate and promote proactive team efforts to achieve District, building, and grade level goals.

Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge, skill development, and your professionalism.

Respect the rights and confidentiality of information received in your position.

Understand the meaning of “homeless students” based on the McKinney Vento -Act and help identify the students in the school to your supervisors to allow the students to receive the appropriate support for their education.

Know the VCSC’s protocol for reporting suspected abuse of our students.

Be familiar with the targeted behaviors for each school.

Work closely with the school counselor to coordinate behavior programs in the school.

Perform duties as assigned by building principals.

Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
